Raymond is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the College of Engineering and Informatics at NUI Galway. He has a double degree in Electrical Engineering (2009) and Systems Engineering (2008) from the Central University of Venezuela and University of Rome "La Sapienza" respectively, thanks to his participation in the double degree program between these two universities. After this, he successfully completed in 2010 a postgraduate Masters of Science in Intelligent Systems in the University of Salamanca, with a dissertation on Neural Network Control of HVAC Systems.

Between October 2010 and February 2011 he participated in the traineeship program of the European Commission, providing technical and logistic support to the "New Forms of Production" unit of the Industrial Technologies Directorate within the Research and Innovation Directorate General. He actively collaborated with the Factories of the Future (FoF) and Energy Efficient Buildings (EeB) Public Private Partnerships (PPP) programs, within the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7).

In April 2011 he joined the ITOBO Strategic Research Cluster as a Research Assistant for the School of Engineering & Informatics of the National University of Ireland, Galway, under the lead of Dr Marcus Keane and supervision of Dr Andrea Costa, working in Simulation, Modelling, Optimization and Intelligent Control Systems for Energy Efficiency in Buildings.

In September 2011 he was granted a postgraduate IRCSET EPS Scholarship award cofunded by the Italian company D'Appolonia S.p.A, becoming a Ph.D. candidate within the IRUSE group at NUI Galway. In May 2015 he received his PhD in Civil Engineering for his work under the title: Self-Aware Buildings: An evaluation framework and implementation technologies for improving building operations, supervised by Dr Marcus M. Keane.
